Incorporated in 1900 by Mr. Pestonji Edulgi Polson, primarily as a Coffee manufacturing Company, Polson diversified into other business activities including diary, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, leather chemicals and Real Estate. With Government policy reserving the dairy sector for the Cooperative sector, Polson being a private organization was forced to end its dairy activities. 


With it’s manufacturing operations located on the foothills of the historical fort Vishalgad, this unit began its operations in 1906 by setting up the first and only Myrabolam Extracts manufacturing facility, primarily servicing the Indian Railway Authorities by substituting an import. “Wattle Extract” for water treatment and in a secondary application for the leather tanning industry specialized in Vegetable based tanning.

Over the years the primary focus changed and the company became a leading supplier of natural tannin materials and Eco-friendly leather chemicals of Indian origin to the international leather industry. Today the company has developed established and maintained an untarnished track record of consistently meeting international quality standards.

The company now boasts of a high profile customer base, which include several multinational companies and leather chemical distributors and end users in practically every country in the world.

Also today the company is Asia’s largest manufacturer and exporter of natural based vegetable tannin extracts and Eco-friendly leather chemicals.

Factory Location

Outskirts of Kolhapur town, Maharashtra State India

Factory Area

Total Factory Land Area – 14 acres developed for manufacturing. Several hundreds of acres under commercial cultivation.

Since factory is located outside city Limits Company has developed infrastructure including housing for employees, temples, recreation parks and gardens, well equipped maintenance workshop and a guest house for visitors; besides providing secondary support for the village schools and community services.


3 shift 24 hrs a day, 365 days per annum. Total employees around 400, 40 Families living on site.

Factory Coordinating Office in Kolhapur:

Factory coordinates its activities through a local office located in the city of Kolhapur (Kolhapur is 300 kms northeast from Bombay). This office is manned by separate management staff, which eventually reports to the Head Office in Bombay.

Head Office

This is located in Bombay. Day to day activities are controlled at Kolhapur office, while Bombay office operations are focused on the activities of key accounts. These accounts include all contract manufacturing and 3rd party supply activities for multinational companies.


The main promoters of Polson Ltd. are Mr. Jagdish Kapadia and Mr. Amol Kapadia. Mr. J. J. Kapadia, age 70, acquired controlling interest in Polson Ltd. and took over its management in 1970. As the dairy operations started to decline due to unfavorable Government policies the chemical company known as Amba Tannin & Pharmaceuticals was amalgamated with Polson Ltd.

Mr. Amol Kapadia, age 37, the Managing Director, is a commerce graduate and has completed his MBA from IMD Lausanne, i.e. International Management Development institute, Switzerland (formerly known as IMEDE). He has had four years work experience in business Consultancy in Coopers & Lybrand, USA and 1 year with the same company in Australia, before he assumed management of Polson Ltd.

The Board of Directors of the company consists of a group of professionals other than the Kapadia family.

Mr. Amol Kapadia is responsible for the overall operations of the company and reports to the Board of Directors.
